Bike New York draws suppliers to NY expo

Published February 5, 2013

NEW YORK, NY (BRAIN) — Bike New York continues to see exhibitors sign up for its second annual Bike Expo New York show May 3-4. Specialized will return to the show, joining Raleigh, REI, Thule, Timbuk2, Primal Wear, Osprey, Nutcase, Eastern Mountain Sports and Terry Bicycles, among others.

Bike Expo New York launched the consumer show last year and drew more than 43,000 attendees. It’s free and open to the public with proceeds from exhibiting costs and from registration fees to Bike New York’s annual TD Five Boro Bike Tour—May 5—going toward the nonprofit’s free education programs for youth and adults. In 2012, Bike New York’s education programs reached more than 12,000 New Yorkers.

The show, held at Basketball City on Pier 36, will include indoor and outdoor entertainment, educational sessions, the Be Chic Be NY fashion show and Bike New York’s Learn to Ride classes for youth and adults. The New York City Department of Transportation will support the expo and promote bike initiatives, programs and information there.

The expo will also host packet pick-up for the Five Boro Bike Tour’s 32,000 riders.

“Last year Bike Expo New York was a huge hit with both consumers and retailers. With many of the bike industry’s top retailers returning and new ones coming on board, Bike Expo New York will solidify its place as the East Coast’s premier bicycling expo,” said Ken Podziba, president and CEO of Bike New York, the show’s owner and organizer.
