Heitmann leaves Backcountry.com to join BMC

Published September 13, 2012

PARK CITY, UT (BRAIN) — BMC-USA has hired Matt Heitmann its new director of marketing, the company announced this week. Heitmann was previously director of bike marketing for Backcountry.com, the parent of Competive Cyclist and other online retailer brands.

Heitmann will be responsible for U.S. promotions and growth of the BMC Group, including the Stromer and Bergamont brands.

"Matt has a proven track record of building brands and tackling big projects, and that expertise is exactly what we need," said Karim Pine, general manager of BMC-USA. "BMC has grown dramatically in the last two years and we plan to continue that trajectory. Matt will provide marketing guidance and expertise and will be integral to the BMC team and brand moving forward."

Heitmann was co-founder of Cadence Cycling & Multisport Centers in the early 2000s and played a role in laying the groundwork for a velodrome in Manhattan, a project resulting in a $40 million charitable donation.

In late 2009, Heitmann joined Competitive Cyclist as director of sales and marketing. After Backcountry.com bought Competitive Cyclist in late 2011 Heitmann became director of marketing for Backcounty.com's bike division.

"The growth opportunities for the BMC Group are staggering," said Heitmann. "To be a part of BMC at this stage is nothing short of exciting. I relish this chance to assist BMC as they continue to evolve and invest in the future of cycling."
