Published June 26, 2012

LAGUNA HILLS, CA (BRAIN) Tuesday June 26 2012 10:57 AM MT— Marisa Shimano has joined the Bicycle Retailer & Industry News editorial staff as summer intern.

Shimano, who will attend Northwestern University in the fall, hopes to hone her writing and reporting skills and immerse herself in the industry over the next couple of months while at the magazine.

Marisa, daughter of former Shimano American president Kozo Shimano, will write web briefs, industry personality profiles and take on other special assignments.

“I’ve always entertained the idea of working for a professional publication, and the opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes glimpse of a magazine like BRAIN is challenging and appealing,” she said.

Shimano recently graduated from Dana Hills High School as valedictorian. An aspiring writer and classically trained dancer, she plans to major in English and dance, with concentrations in creative writing and choreography for musical theater. She’s also a vegetarian cook, insatiable reader and coffee enthusiast.

“Marisa is eager to contribute to and learn the inner workings of the magazine and industry,” said editor Lynette Carpiet. “We will put her enthusiasm to good use here over the busy summer season.”

Shimano will work out of the magazine’s Laguna Hills, California, offices. She can be reached at mshimano.bicycleretailer@gmail.com.
