New branding pushes ISPO Bike forward

Published April 5, 2012

MUNICH, Germany (BRAIN) Thursday April 5 2012 8:07 AM MT—Munich’s bike show is apparently benefitting from the decision to take on the well-known ISPO name. ISPO Bike 2012 is on pace to double its registration, organizer Messe München said in a press release sent out on Wednesday.

Cycling Sports Group will exhibit this year with its Cannondale and GT brands, the first top tier North American bike company to sign on to the show. Return exhibitors include Derby Cycle, Alpina, Heinz Kettler, KTM, Löffler, Pantherwerke, SR Suntour and Uvex. ZEG and Biretco, the two largest buying groups in Europe, will again be present.

Another newcomer this year is the World Federation of Sporting Goods Industry, which is a longtime partner of ISPO through its ISPO Munch outdoor show.

Previously called Bike Expo, the show changed its name to ISPO Bike last year and moved the dates from late July to Aug. 16-19, putting it 10 days before Southern Germany’s Eurobike, the industry’s dominant tradeshow. That inclusion in the ISPO family has created value for the show, said Klaus Dittrich, chairman of the board of management of Messe Münich. Since launching in 2009, the show has attracted primarily brands that sell to the ZEG, as many of its dealers attend and write orders there.

This year, ISPO Bike will continue its focus on urban mobility and electromobility, as well as set up an action hall to showcase mountain bikes, BMX and dirt bikes.
