Published March 26, 2012

WHISTLER, BC (BRAIN) Monday March 26 2012 8:46 AM MT—Organizers of the freeride festival Crankworx are going across the Atlantic for the first time this summer with an event planned for Les 2 Alpes, France, from July 9-15.

The new event will precede the Crankworx event in Whistler, British Columbia, from Aug. 10-19. Crankworx's Colorado event, held for the last few years at the Winter Park ski area, is not on the company's calendar for 2012. Winter Park is holding its own event, the Colorado Freeride Festival, from July 26-29.

As for the French event, it will be co-hosted by Ayton Concept.

"Our teams will work together to plan and execute on the ground, ensuring this freeride mountain bike festival lives up to the Crankworx name,” says Darren Kinnaird, Crankworx Whistler's general manager. “With six events encompassing slopestyle, downhill and two exciting, new dual hybrids, we believe Crankworx Les 2 Alpes will prove to be an awesome expansion for us and another world-class opportunity for the best mountain bike athletes to showcase their freeride skill and expertise.”

The invitational event will feature 35 of the world’s best slope athletes competing for a prize purse of 15,000 euros ($20,000) on a course designed by Yannick Granieri.

Crankworx first launched in Whistler in 2004.
