Mazzante Named Mountain Bike Mag Editor

Published February 18, 2010

NEW YORK, NY (BRAIN)—Lou Mazzante has been named editor of Mountain Bike magazine.

Mazzante replaces Jasen Thorpe, who is establishing a media and marketing services agency and will continue as an independent sales representative for Rodale’s cycling titles.

Mazzante was previously at Bike Magazine where he served as editor since 2006 and was deputy editor from 2004 to 2006. Before that, he was executive editor and managing editor of Bicycle Retailer and Industry News from 2001 to 2004.

“Lou’s balanced editorial approach, keen visual sense and deep passion for the sport will greatly enrich Mountain Bike and MountainBike.com in every way, allowing us to truly bring the sport alive for readers,” said Loren Mooney, editorial director of Mountain Bike and editor-in-chief of Bicycling. “He’s the right leader at the right time for this magazine.”

Mountain Bike, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, strives to deliver the industry’s most comprehensive tech features and gear reviews. “The work we’ve done over the past four years has produced very satisfying results—as much as 60 percent year-over-year growth in revenue, a complete editorial redesign and repositioning of the brand, and an increase in the number of advertisers,” Thorpe said. “With his wealth of publishing experience and passion for the sport and culture of mountain biking, Lou Mazzante will do a great job in further developing Mountain Bike magazine.”

As editor, Mazzante will focus on adding more pieces dedicated to adventure, trails and mountain biking’s rich culture, while ensuring the brand remains relevant, entertaining and essential for its readers.

“For 25 years Mountain Bike has informed, inspired and influenced the mountain bike community,” Mazzante said. “I look forward to making sure the magazine continues that mission well into the future.”
