Frehner Exits Planet Bike

Published November 17, 2009

MADISON, WI (BRAIN)—Planet Bike president Jeff Frehner has left the company to explore new opportunities in the bicycle industry. He had been with the company since March.

"I was trying to buy the company [from founder and owner Bob Downs] and it didn't get done," Frehner said to Bicycle Retailer and Industry News yesterday. Purchasing the company was "kind of the intent throughout the [coming on board] process," Frehner said.

Frehner said he will be staying in the bicycle industry with an announcement to come shortly.

"Jeff is a very talented and experienced high level manager and he spent the last eight months helping Planet Bike expand and develop new business as well as representing us as our bicycle advocacy lead in the various industry advocacy organizations," Downs said. "In the end, Jeff's skills and abilities were more than what our small company needed and he has decided to pursue opportunities on a higher level in the bicycle industry."

Before Planet Bike, Frehner served as president/chief executive officer of Cannondale Sports Group (now known as Cycling Sports Group)—a position he left in August 2008 due to travel demands.

"We wish Jeff the best and thank him for his great work and advocacy presence at Planet Bike," Downs added.
