Published May 27, 2009

BOULDER, CO (BRAIN)—Bruno Maier will join the Bikes Belong staff on June 1 as the organization's full-time membership and development director.

Maier, who will work from Bikes Belong's Colorado headquarters, will lead the non-profit's membership recruitment and retention programs. He will also help develop new non-endemic corporate and foundation support for the Bikes Belong Coalition and the Bikes Belong Foundation.

Maier has been a bike industry professional for more than 15 years. He most recently served as executive vice president of marketing for the Cannondale Sports Group, where he provided senior sales and marketing direction for the Cannondale, GT, Schwinn and Mongoose brands.

Maier began his work in the bike industry at his family's bike shop in Ohio. He later worked for the Huffy Corporation and Brunswick Bicycles before joining Pacific/Cannondale's senior management team in Madison, Wisconsin, in 2001.

Maier holds a bachelor degree from John Carroll University and an MBA from DePaul University.

"Bruno has long been an enthusiastic and dedicated supporter of our work," said Bikes Belong executive director Tim Blumenthal. "He helped inspire Pacific and Cannondale to support Bikes Belong and our key national non-profit partners. He will add so much to our efforts. We are thrilled that he is joining our team."

"We have an opportunity to take advantage of the changing social values in this country as people recognize cycling as a solution," Maier said. "The development of a strong cycling infrastructure will help fight obesity, lower health care costs, reduce pollution and traffic congestion, and will ultimately drive industry growth. I'm honored to join Bikes Belong to further the mission of putting more people on bikes more often."

Maier can be reached via e-mail at bruno@bikesbelong.org or by phone at (303) 449-4893.
