Giro offers lightweight offroad shoe with laces, the Empire VR90

Published September 8, 2014

SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. (BRAIN) — Giro's Empire mountain bike shoe, previously available in a limited edition, has been added to its regular product line, in a different color.

The new Empire VR90 features an Easton EC90 full carbon outsole and laces instead of buckles or straps. Giro uses Sport Laces, which it says are more durable than buckles in a crash.

"Ever since the runaway success of our limited edition Empire MTB, we've been working on delivering the ultimate lightweight offroad shoe," said Giro footwear product manager Simon Fisher. "The Empire VR90 is that shoe, and our testers, from co-workers to world-class professionals, have been singing its praises. This is truly their dream shoe for the dirt."

The shoe has a one-piece upper made of Giro's breathable Evofiber synthetic material by Teijin. It has an adjustable SuperNatural Fit footbed, that allows riders to fine-tune the fit and arch support. A Vibram Mont molded rubber tread provides grip and durability. The Empire VR90 weighs 315 grams (size 42.5)

It is shipped with an X-Static Anti-Microbial Fiber Travel Bag and Toe Spikes and will be available in sizes 39 - 48, including half-sizes from 39.5 - 46.5.
