Crankbrothers brings back Mallet for DH racing

Published February 12, 2013

LAGUNA, CA (BRAIN) — Crankbrothers is launching a new pedal designed specifically for downhill racing. Prototype Mallet DH/Race pedals were used by several pros during the 2012 season and were used by Greg Minnaar to win a world champioship last year.

The pedal has the same shape as the original Mallet, which had been redesigned in 2011 to make it more attractive to all-mountain riders. The new Mallet DH/Race has several improvements over the original Mallet, however.

The Mallet DH/Race pedal body is extruded and machined aluminum with investment cast steel wings and a forged chromoly spindle. The spindle is 5 millimeters longer than the original Mallet.

The inner bearing is a needle cartridge bearing while the outer bearing is a cartridge. The 8mm pins are adjustable and the release angle is either 15 or 20 degrees.

The pedals have a five-year warranty.

MSRP: $140.
