QBP to open office in Taiwan

Published February 24, 2014

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (BRAIN) — Quality Bicycle Products will open a new office in Taichung, Taiwan, in June to better support its bike manufacturing partners on the island.

The office will handle quality control testing for QBP’s portfolio of bike brands—which has grown over the years to include Surly, Salsa, All-City, Civia, Foundry and Cogburn Outdoors—and the company is in the process of buying equipment, QBP founder and president Steve Flagg told BRAIN at this weekend’s Frostbike open house and expo.

“We feel some need to support them better, communicate better,” Flagg said of QBP’s overseas manufacturers.

The new office, which QBP is renting, will also serve as a point from which to expand the company’s sales into Asian markets, he added.

Scott Thayer, supply chain manager for QBP, will relocate to Taichung for a year to establish the new office along with a Taiwan-based manager.
